In 1931 Berlin, singer Sally Bowles is the star of the Kit Kat Club, a haven of divine decadence resisting the rise of the Nazis. Inspired by a Broadway musical, Cabaret is one of the few New Hollywood films to tell a story outside of America. Bob Fosse’s direction is strikingly modern, both in the musical numbers and the uninhibited psychology of the characters.
